‘Clueless’ Alicia Silverstone Eats Mysterious, Poisonous Fruit From Someone’s Garden: See Viral Video

The actress picked the fruit from a garden she passed by and dropped it on the ground before eating it

Eating a mysterious fruit on the ground that might be poisonous? Most people would say, “As if!” But not Alicia Silverstone. The actress — best known for her work as Cher Horowitz in the hit 1995 movie Clueless — recently went viral after she picked up a mysterious orange fruit out of someone’s garden, then dropped it on the ground before eventually eating it.

In the viral video posted to social media, Silverstone says, “OK, I’ve discovered something that I can’t figure out what it is, and I need your help. I just bit into it because it was on the street, and we were discussing whether this was a tomato or not.”

The Clueless star then drops the mysterious fruit and pans to what looks to be a nearby tomato garden before continuing. “And if I bite it — I don’t think you’re supposed to eat this. But it’s almost like a pepper. Does anyone know what this is?”

The internet reacts to Alicia Silverstone eating a poisonous fruit

After posting the video, people all over TikTok took to the comments section and warned the actress never to do that again.

Some comments were simple and fun, like this one that read, “She’s clearly clueless.” A different user also took a more playful tone by writing, “Imagine looking into your front skyward and seeing Alicia Silverstone muching your garden.”

Others, however, voiced their concern over the actress’s behavior, with a viewer commenting, “That’s called a ‘It’s not yours. You shouldn’t touch it.’” Someone else who viewed the video echoed similar thoughts, writing, “Even if it was a tomato, it’s on someone’s private front garden, you can’t just reach through their gate and pick their plants.”

Most of the video comments section, though, was filled with people identifying the fruit as a Jerusalem Cherry — which is quite poisonous. They also voiced their concerns over whether the actress was OK or not, with one person writing, “That’s a Jerusalem Cherry, it’s toxic!!! Assuming you’re okay since it’s nighttime in England right now, but this video is from during the day.”

Another person decided to poke fun at the actress’s best-known role and wrote, “Ma’am please post again; we can’t be left clueless and need to know you’re okay.”

At the time of publication, Silverstone’s video had more than 13,000  comments in total.

After TikTok users flooded the actress’s comment section begging to know if she was alright, Silverstone herself posted once again to both the video app and Instagram and said, “Alive and well! Don’t worry… I didn’t swallow 😉😛”

People were then filled with relief and once again took to the comments section to write things like, “Awww, I was worried a bit there,” and “Queen, I’m glad you’re alive.”

What did Alicia Silverstone eat? All about a Jerusalem Chery

A Jerusalem Cherry – or a Solanum pseudocapsicum as it is technically called — is a small orange and red fruit that often looks like a tomato and is reported to taste like one.

According to the National Library of Medicine, though, they can be quite harmful to both animals and humans. When consumed, they are known to cause diarrhea, headaches, nausea and vomiting, slowed breathing, vision changes and even hallucinations. The National Library of Medicine also notes that these symptoms can take up to eight to 10 hours to occur after consumption.

They also urge everyone who eats a Jerusalem Cherry to call the Poison Help hotline (1-800-222-1222) right away to learn how to fight these symptoms.
