Melissa Rivers Reveals Go-To Holiday Style and Closet Staples: ‘I Don’t Want Anything That’s Not Going to Carry Me Through’ (Exclusive)
The QVC favorite dishes on simple closet staples, stylish travel tricks and her best holiday outfit secrets
With the holidays rolling around, there’s a sense of pressure to get it all right. Whether it’s figuring out the perfect dinner spread to cook for your guests, the perfect Christmas cookie to leave out for Santa, the perfect gift to give that special someone or the perfect outfit to wear to that work Christmas party, the stress of the season can take its toll. However, television personality, author and fashion expert Melissa Rivers, 57, has a few tips for at least getting that holiday look right.
While the holidays can get overwhelming, looking your best, feeling the best and sporting clothes that make you feel confident and capable can often be half the battle. Here, in an exclusive chat with Woman’s World at Mrs. Claus’ Holiday House hosted by QVC, Melissa got candid about her closet staples, shared some of her favorite pieces and even revealed a few packing tips for holiday travel.
Melissa Rivers’ no-fail holiday closet staples
We all have been there: you’re standing in front of your closet, packed from wall to wall with clothes, and still can’t find anything to wear. For Melissa Rivers, however, having a few anchor items and closet staples helps to give her a jumping-off point when it comes to building the perfect look.
“Throughout the year, I lean into black,” she revealed to Woman’s World. “My staples are my black leather pants. You have to have good jeans. I have black jeans. I have my dark denim jeans. I like anything that works together. I know I can wear my black leather pants with my silk shirt and a bootie and look put together. I can also wear my jeans with the same shirt and a sneaker.” She continued, “When you have those kinds of basics, you can add stuff—this skirt will go with this sweater. It’ll go with this brown silk shirt, a white silk shirt. Dress it down, pop on a leather jacket for fall, little booties, a black t-shirt, a sweater, and it’s going to carry you all the way through. I don’t want anything that’s not going to carry me through.”

Melissa Rivers’ top QVC picks for the holidays
At this year’s Mrs. Claus’ Holiday House event, Melissa was thrilled to share some of her favorite QVC picks—from stunning shimmering blazers perfect for your next holiday party or night out any time of the year to a comfy-as-can-be plaid maxi skirt she was stunningly sporting on the day of the event, filling your closet with staple items you can build your outfits around is easier than it might seem.
Melissa Rivers’ simple packing tips for holiday travel
If you’re someone who travels for the holidays, then you understand the woes of packing a suitcase, trying to fit in outfits for any of the potential excursions you may find yourself embarking on. Though Rivers might not be an expert, joking that she wishes someone could share some packing tips with her, she does follow a few practices that make life a little easier for her.
“I’m all about the packing cube,” she shared, though she did reveal that she isn’t as organized when packing it all back up to head home. However, she does have a simple trick to keep track of what’s been worn and what hasn’t. “Everything that’s dirty, I put back in inside out. So anything that’s clean is not inside out.”
This holiday season, wherever your adventures take you, remember that looking your best starts with feeling confident. With Melissa’s smart staples anchoring your wardrobe and her practical packing wisdom in your back pocket, you’ll step into every holiday gathering ready to shine. When you feel comfortable and confident, that’s when the real magic happens—and you can focus on what matters most: celebrating with the people you love.
