Rob Lowe’s Sons Are All Grown Up! See Their Sweetest Moments Together Over the Years
The ‘West Wing’ actor recently opened up to Woman’s World about his proudest moments as a father
Rob Lowe may be an ‘80s icon, a beloved sitcom actor and a treasured movie star, but he is also the proud father of two sons, Matthew Edward Lowe and John Owen Lowe. Sharing his two sons with his wife, Sheryl Berkoff, Rob gushed about his kids to Woman’s World and shared just how proud he is of their accomplishments. Rob Lowe’s son John Owen has followed in his footsteps
Rob has been in the spotlight for decades, charming audiences and gaining legions of fans along the way, and his sons have been by his side for a decent portion of it. One of their sweetest moments came when Rob, Matthew and John Owen attended the 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards together in 2009. The boys got all dressed up, John Owen sported braces and the trio posed for the cameras.
Like his father, John Owen has jumped into the entertainment industry, and now stars alongside Rob in their series Unstable – John Owen also contributes to the show as a writer.
“What he did, more than anything, was remind me of things that over 45 years of doing this, I might have forgotten. He’s reminded me of the wonder, the excitement, the fun and the moments of creativity that happen on set,” Rob told Woman’s World about the ways in which his son has pushed him professionally. “It’s new and you don’t know what’s around every corner, so he’s shown me the challenges and surprises.”
Rob Lowe has shared sweet moments with his sons and wife
Rob is clearly a family man, and he additionally opened up to Woman’s World about his 33-year long marriage.
“I married my best friend, and that will always be there when other things ebb and flow,” the former Brat Pack member shared. “I’m Sheryl’s biggest fan and I’m still blown away by how her mind works, her energy, her capacity to help people and to give of herself. It’s one of the things I recognized in her from day one.”
Rob’s love for his family is evident in his words and appearances, and his cute appearance alongside his wife and John Owen in 2013 gave fans a glimpse into the family’s bond. Rob, Sheryl and John Owen posed as they attended the Best Buddies’ Bowling For Buddies Event at Lucky Strike Lanes at L.A. Live, looking like an adorable trio.
Rob Lowe’s son Matthew pursued a unique career path
While John Owen joined his dad in the film business, Matthew went a different direction – Rob couldn’t be more proud.
“I think I did well as a father because I have a son who not only passed the Bar and has his law degree but also has a commercial fishing license,” the West Wing alum said of his son. “That, to me, speaks of well-roundedness.”
In addition to his impressive degree, Matthew’s fishing skills have lent themselves to Lowe family events, with Rob telling Woman’s World, “The commercial fisherman in my family is teaching me how to grill fish.” The envy of barbecuers everywhere!
Though Matthew didn’t go in the same professional direction as his father, he’s joined Rob plenty of times at events and carpets. Here, Rob, John Owen and Matthew are seen at Super Bowl XLIV at Miami’s Sun Life Stadium in 2010.
Rob Lowe opened up about the lessons he’s taught his sons
Rob’s sons are now well into their adult years, allowing the actor to reflect on being a father and the lessons he handed down to them both. Speaking to Woman’s World, he shared that his approach to parenthood was leading by example.
“There are the things that you teach them and can articulate, and then there’s the stuff you hope they learn by example and observing. I would always try to teach them to be thoughtful, thankful, grateful, friendly, kind and polite,” Rob explained. “All that good stuff. And I told them to always look people in the eye and say please and thank you.”
Pivoting to praise his wife, Sheryl, Rob highlighted her “tremendous work ethic” that she passed along to their kids.
“You have to get up and go to work everyday. And if you want something, you have to put in the time and effort,” he shared. And it’s clear Rob’s kids took that advice to heart. Another sweet moment of theirs came when all three Lowe guys joined each other to discuss The Lowe Files – the family’s reality show – in 2017.
From being babies in the public eye to now fully grown and accomplished adults, it’s clear that Rob is super proud of his boys.
