Mandy Moore Inspires Women To Live Authentically With TJ Maxx’s #ClaimYourAnd Campaign (Exclusive)

Don't miss TJ Maxx's latest campaign helping women stay true to themselves — at any age!

Partnering with beloved actress and multihyphenate, Mandy Moore, TJ Maxx is empowering women of all ages to embrace their full, incredible selves with their new Maxx You Project campaign called #ClaimYourAnd.

“For as long as I can remember, I’ve felt confined by labels given to me — a singer or an actress, kind or strong, a producer or a mom — but I’ve never been this OR that,” Mandy Moore tells Woman’s World in a one-on-one interview. “There’s so much power in forgetting ‘or’ and I’m so excited to finally be claiming all of my ‘ands’ on my own terms and at this stage in my life.”

The #ClaimYourAnd campaign will encourage women to comment on the many facets that make them feel like the truest version of themselves. For every comment posted on TJ Maxx’s TikTok and Instagram between now and Aug. 31, 2024 that uses the hashtag #ClaimYourAnd, the retailer will donate $1 to the nonprofit Dress for Success, with a minimum donation of $100,000.

The 40-year-old This is Us star says she is honored to be partnering with TJ Maxx to encourage women everywhere to boldly express every unique element of their identity.

Here, Mandy opens up in an exclusive interview with Woman’s World about redefining yourself at any age, finding peace in busy days and how she broke free from the many labels put on her throughout her career.

Woman’s World (WW): What resonated with you at first about the Claim Your And campaign that made you want to be part of it?

Mandy Moore: I think this campaign resonated with me as it resonates with just about every woman: We’re so singularly defined. Culture and society forces us to make those choices ourselves or it puts those labels on us.

I just love that this particular campaign is all about embracing and empowering yourself to recognize our multi-dimensionality. We are many, many things, and we’re constantly evolving. You can be one thing now, you can be another, you can add more things and subtract things. So I love this idea of claiming your ‘and.’

WW: Amidst your busy schedule, how do you give yourself permission to rest and do things for yourself?

Mandy: I think we all have to give ourselves permission constantly. It’s a reminder each and every day, but also recognizing that every day is going to look different. Every day is going to have different challenges and a different schedule and its own obstacles.

So I try to mitigate that as best I can, and have grace for myself and realize that I’m not going to get it perfect. I’m not going to nail it all the time. I’m not going to feel amazing about something each and every day. And that’s okay too. That’s all part of it.

WW: How do you find peace in your day?

Mandy: I think it can look different each day. One day it might be that the kids are down, it’s 7:00, and I need to take a bath. I’m going to light a candle and listen to a podcast while in the the bath. Or I’m going to crawl into bed early and read my book. I don’t want to watch anything or engage in any other way.

My self care routine, right now, is just time with my husband. Once one kid is at school or camp and the other guys napping, we are always like, “Let’s go outside and walk around the block with the dog.” We are always trying to find time for those little date nights or planning a night away with my girlfriends. Having something to look forward to is the best. It gets you through those moments when you feel overwhelmed. It helps to have something on the calendar down the line that you know you’re excited about.

WW: What advice could you give to other women — of all ages — that might help them realize that it’s never to late to be authentically you and “claim your AND”?

Mandy: It’s never too late. I hope that we all are able to carry that idea with us throughout our life. Most women are sort of pigeonholed, and labels were put on me at a very, very young age. I sort of had to fight against that. I think we all are constantly fighting that. It’s not so much that having a label thrust upon you is problematic, but it’s the idea that it’s your only singular, identifiable characteristic.

I feel like this idea of embracing the next chapter of your life and who you are and what life throws about you is a really important message to telegraph out in the world. There is freedom and empowerment that can come with this idea that you get to define yourself at any age on your own terms. We don’t have to wait for society to say, “Oh, you’re a mom and you can do it all and be it all at whatever juncture at whatever age.”

WW: Did you ever feel like you were put in a box or had to act a certain way? How did you break free from those labels?

Mandy: I feel like I’ve done a decent enough job of seeing the forest through the trees and recognizing it. Still to this day, people are like, “Well, are you an actor? Are you a singer? One or the other?” Why is it outside of the realm of possibility to be both? And to be way more than that? We all are. We bring so much to the table.

So I just continue to live my life and try to make the choices that align with what feels right to me and recognize that sometimes the world just has to catch up. But if I know where I’m going, if I know the lane that I feel comfortable in, then I’m just going to keep putting one foot in front of the other. It’s not my responsibility to catch the world up. Hopefully they’ll get there, and I know I’m enough.
