Princess Kate Middleton wrote a rare public letter amid her cancer recovery, offering royal fans near and far a glimmer of hope as she battles the disease behind closed doors.. The royal released a letter on June 8 apologizing to the Irish Guards — a Foot Guards regiment of the British Army for which she serves as Colonel — for missing the final rehearsal before the annual Trooping the Colour event, which marks the sovereign’s official birthday since the accession of King George IV in 1820. The event itself follows the king as he presents the Irish Guards with the regiment’s new flag.

What did Kate Middleton write in her public letter?

In the letter posted to X (formerly Twitter), the Princess of Wales wrote, “I wanted to write and let you know how proud I am of the entire Regiment ahead of the Colonel’s Review and Trooping the Colour. I appreciate everyone trooping this year has been practicing for months, and dedicating many hours to ensuring their uniforms and drill are immaculate.”

Kate continued, “Being your Colonel remains a great honour, and I am very sorry that I’m unable to take the salute at this year’s Colonel’s Review. Please pass my apologies to the whole Regiment.”

The Princess of Wales even signed her name as “Colonel Catherine” to show her respect and admiration for the title she holds.

Kate Middleton offered a brief update on her condition

In what was seen as a glimmer of hope regarding her condition, the princess wrote in her letter that she hopes to be able to represent the Irish Guards publicly “very soon.” Her wording was taken by many fans as a hint that a return to public life could be in Kate’s near future.

The Irish Guard responded to the letter from the princess, writing on X, “The Irish Guards were deeply touched to receive a letter from our Colonel, Her Royal Highness, The Princess of Wales this morning.

The Irish Guard carried on, “We continue to wish Her Royal Highness well in her recovery and send Her our very best wishes.”

Kate Middleton has been away from public life since December 2023

Kate’s absence at the event wasn’t breaking news. In fact, the palace announced on May 30 that the princess would have to miss the event because of her health, making it the latest public appearance she has had to step away from.

In January, the Princess of Wales did not attend the traditional St. Patrick’s Day parade, as she was recovering from abnormal surgery at the time. The nature of her condition was made known in March after rampant public speculation, and she has stayed behind closed doors throughout her treatment.

The royal family has remained private about the princess’s health. On May 10, Prince Willaim went on record saying that his wife was doing well despite the extensive chemotherapy she is undergoing.

The princess is expected to return to her royal duties in full once she has been given the all-clear by her medical team, but they have not announced an estimated time..
